The first race was the longest of the weekend, covering a tortuous 18 laps of the 1.45 mile Pembrey circuit. 28 F1 Sidecars
lined up in the bright Welsh sunshine waiting for the flag to drop. With a roar and screech of tortured rubber, they where
away into the tight hairpin first corner. Scud got the drop on Reeves/Cluze but on exiting the bend Reeves ran wide and straight
into Scud and Steve. Hitting them hard, he flattened the exhaust and took the nose cone off the fairing. This ruined the front
down force making steering difficult. With damage limitation the order of the day Scud proceeded to slide his way around the
circuit with Steve making a valiant effort to keep the plot stable.
3 laps
in and the Birchall brothers squeezed past relegating us into 3rd. With James/Morgan only 1 second behind Scud
and Steve had to be on top of their game to stay on the podium. For a few laps the front four where nose to tail, then backmarkers
came into play The 2 world champions broke away opening a 4 second gap.
On
the penultimate lap Reeves was up to his usual antics. Having barged into the Birchalls 4 or times earlier in the race he
had 1 final attack, leaving Ben and Tom spinning onto the grass. They re-joined in 4th place,
gifting 2nd to us and putting us on the front row for the 2 races on Sunday.
