Successful Season Opener for Wirral Pair.
Allan and Steve shock the sidecar world with their speed at round 1
A sunny Pembrey Circuit, in South Wales, was the scene of the first round of the F1 national championship
last weekend. The engine tuning rule changes, intended to give a chance to underfunded teams, gave the team hope of running
at the front for the first time in many seasons.
2nd in races 1 and 2 and
3rd in the final battle of the weekend added to qualifying in 3rd, and within 0.009secs of the current
world champions made everybody sit up and take notice. Breaking the current lap record was just the cherry on the
top for the hard charging pair
The whole weekend exceeded Scud and Steves expectations.
Leading the biggest grid for 25 years on no less than 4 occasions and only being headed by former or current world champions,
was well beyond the hopes of the boys.
Allan said “The set-up and balance of the bike was spot on. I could slide into and out of corners with confidence.
Add to that the fact that the top teams didn’t have the engine advantage over us, means we can get in there and mix
it with the best in the world.”
Steve (Tarmac) Thomas the former
European championship winning passenger, held the plot together with style. He later commented “The outfit was fast
and stable, this made my job in the chair easier. I was able to focus on increasing corner speed and rear end grip”
Snetterton Circuit near Norwich will be the scene for the next round of this very well run championship.
If the team can continue as they have started, this could be a very successful year.
